OK, here is a thumbnail of my journey - I grew up in Long Island, graduated with a BA from Hofstra University, then went to work and live in New York City - all the while loving art and creating all sorts of things, but never really connecting with my true - creative - self, but I couldn't tell you why. (The only evolutionary change in the human brain in the past 40,000 years or so has been the development of a "creative mind", but for reasons past my understanding we are rarely encouraged to use it. This is a pity because as Albert Einstein so elegantly said "Time and space are relative. Creativity is the single most alive element in all of nature"). And so it happened ... my creativity woke-up big time! I then created the "Crown of Liberty" (the green foam crown that looks like the one worn by the Statue of Liberty), wrote an epic film on the complete history of Lady Liberty, which was optioned in Hollywood and began a life-long-love-affair with this, the world's greatest monument to freedom. Next, I created my JFK Flag of Tribute (see JFK Flag Art), from matchbooks I found on the streets of New York City and totally reflective of my high regard for our late President John F. Kennedy. In 1990, I left my city-life and moved to a small town on the Hudson River, NY. I unplugged from worldly things so I could meet me, not on Madison Avenue, but along the riverside. Over the years I've been in many solo and group shows and exhibitions, my artwork reflects my connection to nature. My sculptural pieces are made from found objects, man-made and natural, that I collect along my way. I'm very drawn to corrosion especially, because I feel it's a metaphor for embracing death and finding through death the beauty of transformation. It is my joy to create and my priviledge to share my artwork with you. -et |
